Weir in Africa
Weir’s operations in Africa principally focus on the mining and power and industrial markets.
Weir Minerals main activities in Africa are supporting the production of gold, diamonds, coal, platinum, base metals and copper through the manufacturing, support and servicing of a full range of mining and minerals engineering solutions. The division also serves the general industry, power and sand and gravel markets. Main facilities are in South Africa, the world’s biggest producer of platinum and one of the leading producers of gold, diamonds, base metals and coal, with an extensive sales and service network with around twenty manufacturing, service and sales sites throughout Africa.
Weir Power and Industrial in Africa serves the power, oil and gas, petrochemical, pulp and paper and water markets. The products are primarily focused on high pressure, high temperature applications where reliability and long life are the key drivers in customer purchase. The division’s operations are based in South Africa, where rising electricity demand is driving power station capacity expansion.
Weir in Australia and Asia-Pacific
Weir has a substantial presence in Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia, focusing principally on the minerals, oil and gas and power markets.
Weir Minerals supports the mining and minerals processing industries across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, providing original equipment and substantial services and support for the iron ore, coal, copper, gold, nickel, alumina and mineral sands markets. Main facilities are in Sydney and Coolum, Australia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with a substantial sales and service network throughout Australia and Indonesia. Weir Minerals has nearly forty manufacturing, service and sales sites across the region.
Weir Power and Industrial serves the conventional and nuclear power markets across the region with an application engineering capability, service centre and sales hub in Singapore, a control valves manufacturing plant in South Korea and support from the division’s global operations.
Weir Oil & Gas has a growing service and sales footprint in Australia and Asia-Pacific, focused on the unconventional oil and gas markets.
Weir in China
Weir has been operating in China for nearly two decades. It has two wholly owned subsidiaries in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province – one focused on the mining industry and the second on the power sector. Weir has a sourcing operation based in Shanghai for the distribution, import and export of valve and pump materials and components. In the upstream oil and gas sector, Weir has a joint venture with the Chinese oil services company Shengli Highland, providing high-pressure well service pumps and related flow control equipment to the developing shale gas industry in China.
Weir China operates from five regional sales offices, five manufacturing centres and a sourcing and distribution centre.
Weir in Europe
Weir has extensive operations in Europe, serving all three of its main markets of minerals, oil and gas and power.
Weir Minerals serves the mining, minerals processing, aggregates, dredging and tunnelling, flue gas desulphurisation, power, water, oil and gas and general industrial sectors across Europe, with main manufacturing facilities based in the UK and the Netherlands, with service centres and sales sites across the continent.
The downstream focused operations of Weir Oil & Gas are located in Italy and Poland, where centrifugal pumps for the refining industry are manufactured, distributed and serviced. The division also has a large services operation in Aberdeen, Scotland, focused on North Sea oil production.
Weir Power & Industrial serves the European and global power sectors with service-critical valve products and substantial service operations from its main European facilities. Critical isolation and control valves are manufactured in the UK and safety valves are manufactured from two facilities in France, serving the global conventional and nuclear power and oil and gas markets. A global wind power servicing capability is based in Spain, with links to other facilities worldwide.
A network of service centres are supported by a central engineering resource, providing engineered service solutions for flow control and rotating equipment at traditional and renewable power generation sites.
Sales of its steam turbine product are also based in the UK, focussed primarily on waste-to-energy and biomass markets.
Weir in India
Weir has a strong presence in one of the world’s fastest growing economies.
Weir Minerals serves the Indian mining, minerals processing, power, sand and aggregates and dredging industries, with a manufacturing facility in Bangalore, an Indian service centre network and a sales footprint across the major Indian states.
Weir Power & Industrial has a large valves manufacturing facility based in Hubli, from where it supplies the domestic and global valves markets. The centre also hosts a large shared engineering services operation, providing engineering expertise and technological capability to all Weir Group companies, as well as external clients.
Weir in Latin America
Weir is recognised as one of the largest suppliers of mining equipment in the South American market, as well as providing a growing service offering to the continent’s oil and gas sector.
Many of the world’s largest mines are located in South America and Weir has manufacturing plants in Chile, Brazil and Peru, producing the equipment used by major mining customers on some of the world’s largest mining projects, focusing on the production of copper, iron, bauxite and alumina. Aftermarket service and support is provided from a network of service centres, stretching from Mexico to Argentina.
Weir in the Middle East
Weir is one of the largest service providers in the Middle East region, serving the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry, the power and desalination industries and water and waste water industries.
Products and services provided include repair and recertification of pressure control equipment, premium threading, new valve products, valve and flow control repair and maintenance and rotating equipment refurbishment and upgrade.
The main service facilities serving the region are located in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Iraq and Azerbaijan with a presence also in Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan and Egypt.
Weir in North America
The three main divisions of the Weir Group have substantial operations in the US and Canada.
Weir Minerals divisional headquarters is in Madison, Wisconsin with a network of more than 60 manufacturing, service and sales sites across North America. The North American operations of the division are focused on the mining and oil sands markets and flue gas desulphurisation – the method used to remove sulphur dioxide from fossil fuel power plants. North America is the joint largest market for Weir Minerals equipment and services.
The upstream operations of the Weir Oil & Gas Division are focused on the North American unconventional oil and gas market, with around 50 manufacturing, service and sales sites across the US and Canada. The business is focused on the manufacture and support of wellhead equipment, high pressure pumps and flow control products. North America is the largest market for the Weir Oil & Gas Division.
Weir Power & Industrial supplies valves and provides a range of aftermarket services and support to the North American conventional, renewable and nuclear power sectors. Its valve manufacturing facility serves the North American and global nuclear and conventional power and oil and gas markets with a range of isolation products.
The division is a leading supplier and installer of large equipment for the hydroelectric market, specialising in the design, manufacture, upgrade and servicing of high performance hydro-turbines and pumps. The division also provides specialist pumps for waste water and other industrial applications. North America is the largest single geographic market for Power & Industrial equipment and services.
