The Weir Group PLC and KHD Announcement

The Weir Group PLC and KHD Humboldt Wedag International announce agreement to market KHD High Pressure Grinding Rolls in mining sector

The Weir Group PLC ("Weir") and KHD Humboldt Wedag International AG ("KHD"), announce that Weir Minerals, has been appointed as KHD's exclusive worldwide agent and recommended service provider for high pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs) for minerals processing applications.

High pressure grinding rolls, also called roll presses, have been used in mineral processing plants for many years, in the treatment of iron ore, copper, gold, diamond and various other ore types. High pressure grinding is achieved by an advanced type of grinding roll. Contrary to conventional crushing rolls, the particles are broken by compression in a packed particle bed, and not by direct nipping of the particles between the two rolls. KHD is an originator of this technology and has been successfully marketing HPGRs in the cement and limestone markets since 1984 and in the mining market since 1986. Using HPGRs has been shown to improve throughput while also decreasing operational costs and power consumption especially when compared with a traditional SAG mill.

Weir Minerals is a global leader in the minerals processing and mill circuit venues with their Warman® centrifugal slurry pumps, Cavex® hydrocyclones, Isogate® slurry valves and Vulco® wear resistant linings, as well as their outstanding service offerings.

"Working with Weir Minerals in the mining marketplace was an easy decision," said Dr. Ekkhart Matthies, KHD Comminution Director. "Their reputation and relationship within the industry are superb. They will help the KHD roller presses increase their presence and reach in minerals processing facilities worldwide. This also combines our leading technology with a world class service provider and hence significantly improves our offering to customers."

"We are delighted to be working with a company of KHD's outstanding reputation and dedication to quality," commented Scot Smith, Weir Minerals divisional managing director. "Offering the KHD HPGR extends our portfolio in mill circuit and minerals processing operations around the world, and will allow us to further our relationships and commitment to our customers."

Weir Minerals sales and service representatives will begin representing this portfolio extension to their clients in the mining sector immediately. More information is available on http://www.weirminerals.com/.
